(Reuters) - Meta's Facebook was down for more than 50,000 users on Wednesday, while Instagram was down for more than 23,000 users, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

Facebook is down and users are reporting outages to downdetector, the site that reports problems with popular websites. The Facebook spike started shortly after 1 p.m. Eastern Time. The biggest problem occured on the mobile app, where 57% of the problems were reported. The site had another 33% of the problems. And it was happening all over.

Meta-owned Instagram said its services were back online after thousands of users experienced technical issues accessing its platform on Wednesday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

Meta announced a technical issue Wednesday afternoon disrupting access to the technology conglomerate’s apps. The company owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. On X, formerly known as Twitter, Meta said the issue is impacting some users’ ability to access apps. The company said it is working to get access returned as soon as possible.

Several Facebook and Instagram users are reporting problems with the social media platform amidst a possible Meta outage.

At 1:20 p.m. ET, Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, showed over 105,00 reports of Facebook not working, with majority of those saying the issue comes from the app. The website also received 11,000 reports of problems with Facebook Messenger and 70,590 reports that Instagram was down, with 78 percent noting the issue stemmed from the app.

Many users reported issues accessing Facebook and Instagram Wednesday afternoon. According to the site Downdetector, around 1 p.m., over 70,000 Instagram users and over 100,000 Facebook users reported issues accessing the platforms.
