A 44-year-old homeless man with an extensive criminal history has been arrested in connection with a violent attack of an elderly Sikh man in North Hollywood earlier this month, officials announced Tuesday.

Los Angeles County launched the Emergency Centralized Response Center earlier this year to better coordinate homeless services. By centralizing the response, supporters say the dispatch center makes it easier to get people off the streets.

Police are searching for two suspects who shot a homeless man while attempting to rob him in his tent in the East Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles overnight. The shooting was reported on the 4600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard around 2:20 a.
