The NGT criticised the UPPCB for submitting outdated water samples from the Sangam. A CPCB report highlighted high levels of faecal coliform bacteria in Sangam waters.

According to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) the UPPCB submitted old water samples from January 12, before the commencement of the Maha Kumbh festival, 2025.
