A federal judge has blocked Trump and Musk plan to push out federal employees by offering them financial incentives.

The Trump administration is planning widespread layoffs among the federal workforce soon, leaving employees who don’t accept its deferred resignation offer at risk of losing their jobs, two Trump administration officials told CNN.

Rattled civil servants struggled with whether to leave their posts in advance of a Thursday deadline as Elon Musk continued his push through agencies.

U.S. District Judge George O’Toole Jr. in Boston did not express an opinion on the legality of the program. He scheduled a hearing for Monday at 2 p.m. EST.

A US district judge in Boston directed the administration to extend that deadline until after a court hearing he scheduled for Monday afternoon.

The administration set a deadline for Thursday at 11:59 p.m. Eastern for employees to decide on the offer. But a federal judge in Massachusetts paused the deadline until at least a hearing set for Monday at 2 p.
