India’s Tejaswin Shankar stayed firmly in medal contention in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games 2026, finishing second overall after the opening five events on Thursday.
Tejaswin, who earlier retired from the men's high jump due to a knee injury, started the Decathlon with a 10.96s timing in the 100m and accumulated 870 points.
Tejaswin Shankar withdrew from the high jump after aggravating a longstanding knee tendonitis during warm-up, opting to prioritize recovery for the upcoming decathlon. The emotional athlete said he remains determined to compete in two days.
