A Tarrant County jury sentenced Tanner Horner to death for the 2022 kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand.

The jury returned a decision in less than three hours. The sentence will automatically be appealed to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Tanner Horner pleaded guilty last month to killing the girl in 2022 after he delivered a Christmas gift to her home in Wise County.
