Notre Dame's addition amplifies a presumed gauntlet for Auburn under the SEC's new scheduling model. The Tigers are hosting Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas A&M in 2027, as well as traveling to Texas. In 2028, they'll make a quartet of daunting road trips, heading to Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU.

Notre Dame football will face Auburn for a home-and-home series beginning in 2027 and concluding in 2028, it announced Wednesday.

We’ve seen more and more of such series played or scheduled in recent years, including Alabama-Texas (before the Longhorns joined the SEC), Alabama-Ohio State, Auburn-Penn State, Georgia-Notre Dame and Texas-Ohio State. But there are still a few yet-to-happen matchups between SEC schools and Power 4 conference opponents that we’d like to see.

It’s finally happening. Notre Dame fans will be able to cross Auburn off the list of teams the Irish haven’t played. From the ND press release:

Auburn's scheduling of Notre Dame comes as the SEC further strengthens its schedules for its teams as the league moves from an eight-game league schedule this season to a nine-game league schedule in 2026. The new league rules also require SEC programs to schedule at least one Power 4 non-conference game each season.
