Women's college basketball AP Top 25: Baylor and USC enter top 10, UConn remains in top spot
The first week of the women's college basketball season has officially wrapped up and now we have our first AP Top 25 of the regular season. While the top six teams remained the same, with reigning national champion UConn on top, there was movement elsewhere.
Vanderbilt women's basketball remained at No. 19 in the AP Poll after defeating Cal in its season opener in the Oui-Play Paris event. The Commodores (1-0) won that game, 74-65, as Mikayla Blakes scored 27 points. Their home opener against Furman is at Memorial Gymnasium on Nov. 10 (6 p.m. CT, SEC Network).
The UConn women’s basketball team leaned heavily on its full-court press against Florida State, and it paid off on both ends of the floor.
TCU women’s basketball beat Sam Houston State 88-46 on Sunday to improve to 2-0 and extended its home winning streak to 26 games, a record that dates back to last season. Guard Olivia Miles nearly posted a double-double with 22 points and nine assists. Fellow guard Donovyn Hunter had a career-high 20 points to go with six assists and five rebounds.
Updates as the Arizona State women's basketball team faces Eastern Washington on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Desert Financial Arena.
The UConn women's basketball team let the Cardinals shrink a once 28-point lead down to 10 in the game's final minutes. While Auriemma blamed the poor fourth quarter to the ebbs and flows of a basketball game, his players showed their disappointment in this week's film session.
