The Arizona Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals meet up in Omaha on Sunday with their NCAA Men’s College World Series hopes on the line in the first elimination game of the tournament. Both teams had high hopes coming into the Men’s College World Series, but found themselves on the losing end of a couple of tough battles.

Arizona was the first team to arrive in Omaha, landing on Tuesday after spending an extra day in North Carolina following a Super Regional that saw the Wildcats take advantage of a huge break to get back to the College World Series.

Zion Rose hit a go-ahead two-run bloop single down the right field line in the bottom of the eighth inning, keying a six-run rally to give Louisville an 8-3 win over Arizona in a College World Series elimination game at Charles Schwab Field.

The CWS often boils down to manufactured runs. Arizona will have to hammer out four games worth of them just to make the championship series.

The ghosts of the old Pac-12 will be lurking at Charles Schwab Field this weekend when the College World Series opens. Oregon State, UCLA and Arizona will be back in Omaha, where they combined for seven of the 24 national baseball championships won by the conference.

Arkansas, Oregon State, LSU, Louisville, Arizona and UCLA. The last remaining ticket will come down to Murray State vs. Duke.
