A child who was not vaccinated has died from measles in West Texas. It's the first death in an outbreak that began late last month and the first from measles in the U.S. since 2015.

An unvaccinated, school-age Texas child has died from measles in the first U.S. fatality from the disease in a decade as the outbreak sweeps across the rural west of the state. State officials announced Wednesday that it was the first death from the highly infectious yet preventable disease since 2015.

It's the first since the outbreak began late last month. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center spokesperson Melissa Whitfield confirmed the death Wednesday.
