Photographs have captured the moments after a baby girl was born on a packed migrant dinghy heading for the Canary Islands. The small boat was carrying 60 people and had embarked from Tan-Tan - a Moroccan province 135 nautical miles (250km) away.

After a record-breaking year of migrant arrivals, the president of Spain’s Canary Islands called the situation on the islands “unsustainable” on Monday.

The number beats the previous record, set in 2023, as a recent report also points at a peak in the number of deaths recorded in the dangerous Atlantic migration route.
