DENVER (AP) — Tomoyuki Sugano allowed a run over 6 2/3 innings to win for the seventh time in his last eight starts and the Colorado Rockies beat the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Friday night after a hailstorm delayed the start an hour.

Jackson Merrill, Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets had RBIs Griffin Canning and five relievers turned in a strong bullpen outing as the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Wednesday to take both games of the short series.

Catcher Carter Jensen provided the Royals’ lone run. He belted his 15th home run of the year off the right-field facade in the sixth; the blast traveled 424 feet and put the Royals on the board. “Just got a pitch I could hit hard,” Jensen said, “and I did that.”
