The New York Mets have reportedly signed infielder Jorge Polanco to a two-year, $40 million contract. Per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Polanco is expected to play first base and DH for the Pete Alonso-less Mets in 2026.

The Baltimore Orioles had to fend off two bigger, badder and richer teams to insert Pete Alonso into the middle of their lineup. That's as much bad news for those guys as it is good news for the Orioles.

The Orioles weren’t the only AL East team interested in Pete Alonso. The Red Sox made an offer to Alonso for lesser years and “significantly less” money, according to The Boston Globe.

The Baltimore Orioles stole Pete Alonso from the New York Mets, and the Mets need to respond by signing a different slugger.

Slugging first baseman Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles completed their $155 million, five-year contract Thursday. Baltimore called a news conference for Friday to introduce the five-time All-Star.
