Donald Trump has spent the week turning the world upside down again – launching a trade war with China and claiming America will take over the Gaza Strip – and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is scrambling to work out how best to respond to the American president.

Sir Keir Starmer has provoked further anger over his plans to unpick Brexit by agreeing to hold a UK-EU summit in Britain. Downing Street confirmed the event will take place in May despite widespread dismay that the Prime Minister is being too cosy with Europe.

Keir Starmer is heading to Brussels, becoming the first British prime minster to attend a European Union leaders’ meeting since the U.K. left the bloc five years ago.

With Keir Starmer in town, EU officials and diplomats say their expectations were too high when the British PM took office last year.

The Prime Minister will continue cosying up to the EU by dining his Danish counterpart this evening after jetting to Brussels yesterday.
