The most notable of the seven volcanoes to erupt is Krasheninnikov. On Sunday, Krasheninnikov shot an ash plume up to 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) into the air, according to the BBC. It was the first time experts had registered its eruption since the 15th century.

Among the active volcanic eruptions was the Krasheninnikov volcano, a previously at least 400-year-dormant volcano.

Last week, a massive magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, sparking tsunami warnings as far away as French Polynesia and Chile.
