The Highland County Health Department was notified on July 30 that a bat collected in the county has tested positive for rabies. There is no known exposure to a human or pet at this time.
On Thursday afternoon, health officials said a bat found near Valley View Road in Custer County tested positive for rabies.
Over the next month, baited vaccine will be distributed across 10 counties by airplane in rural areas, by helicopter in suburban areas, and by hand in residential areas.
