Apple Maps, Bing Maps and Google Maps have all changed their Maps software and apps to now display Gulf of America on the body of water that's been known as the Gulf of Mexico since the 16th century.

The Gulf of Mexico will now appear as the Gulf of America for U.S. users of Apple Maps, Bing Maps and Google Maps.

Google has announced plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” for U.S. users on its Maps platform. The change follows an executive order from President Donald Trump, and updates will occur once the U.

Mexico says it’s awaiting a new response from Google to its request that the tech company fully restore the name Gulf of Mexico to its Google Maps service before filing a lawsuit.

Google has found itself back in the crosshairs of a geopolitical battle over President Trump’s renaming of the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, raising fresh questions over the role technology companies can play in reinforcing political narratives.
