The suspense over who would be the Chief Minister of Maharashtra could be resolved this evening as the three key leaders of the ruling alliance -- Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar -- meet Union Home minister Amit Shah.

On Wednesday, Eknath Shinde, who resigned as Chief Minister on Tuesday but remains the caretaker CM, stated that he left the decision to decide the next Maharashtra Chief Minister to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership.

The next Chief Minister of Maharashtra will be from the Bharatiya Janata Party, and s/he will be backed by two Deputy Chief Ministers, drawn, most likely, from Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction, and that of Ajit Pawar's NCP.
