A stunned Michigan Lottery winner says he had difficulty believing the validity of his jackpot win. The 38-year-old man from Clinton County won big while playing the Michigan Lottery’s Caribbean Cashword instant game. He said he deposited $40 into his account, then secured a huge jackpot prize on his second game.

The bill sponsor argues keeping winners anonymous would protect them from threats, scams and the possibility of being violently attacked.

The 63-year-old’s stroke of luck came Dec. 30, when she bought a Lucky7s Fast Cash ticket in Saginaw and realized she had hit the jackpot. Her prize of $855,779 left her with an “unbelievable feeling,” she told Michigan Lottery officials in a Jan. 24 news release.
