Microplastics are everywhere, even in our brains but experts explain how we can limit our exposure to these insidious pollutants.

Tap water and even bottled water contain microplastics. Installing a high-quality filter, such as a reverse osmosis system or an activated carbon filter, can help remove these tiny particles. Avoid bottled water altogether, as studies have shown it often contains more microplastics than tap water.

Microplastics have been found in human blood, semen, breast milk, placental tissue and bone marrow, but their presence in the human brain is particularly "troubling", wrote Ben Spencer, science editor of The Times.
