The Federal government of Somalia has issued a warrant of arrest for the President of Jubaland state in what can be seen as a reciprocal measure after a judge in Jubaland had earlier issued the same warrant for Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

MOGADISHU - Somalia's federal government and the country's Jubbaland region have issued reciprocal arrest warrants for their respective leaders in an escalating dispute over the conduct of elections in Jubbaland.

The Jubaland regional administration has issued an arrest warrant for Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accusing him of treason, conspiracy with Al-Shabaab, abuse of power, and illegal land appropriation.

The arrest warrant comes just two days after Madobe was re-elected on Monday to lead Jubaland for another five-year term. His re-election, conducted through an indirect election, was deemed invalid by the Somali government for violating the country’s one-person, one-vote electoral system.
