The Trump administration has suspended over half a billion dollars in federal grant money to the University of California, Los Angeles. The decision to halt the distribution of federal grants worth $584 million comes in response to an investigation of UCLA by the Justice Department.

The announcement came as UCLA reached a $6 million settlement with three Jewish students and a Jewish professor who sued the university, arguing it violated their civil rights by allowing pro-Palestinian protesters in 2024 to block their access to classes and other areas on campus.

Like it did for prestigious private universities, the administration has cut off federal grants for UCLA, alleging it failed to address antisemitism. The UC system must tell the DOJ by today whether it wants to negotiate.
