U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday in a bid to salvage Gaza truce talks and tackle a humanitarian crisis in the enclave, where a global hunger monitor has warned that famine is unfolding.

US officials will visit Gaza’s aid distribution sites this week amid stepped-up international efforts to ensure more food and key medical supplies make it to those most in need, the White House confirmed Thursday.

S teve Witkoff, the White House's special envoy to the Middle East, met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv on Thursday. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Witkoff and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee had a "very productive meeting" with Netanyahu on delivering food and aid to Gaza.
