A high demand for air purifiers brought dozens of residents to a giveaway event on Saturday afternoon, with a line stretching over a block before the event even began at 12:30 p.m.

At least 1,000 East Bay residents received air purifiers for people affected by the recent fire at the Martinez Refining Company.

Contra Costa Health on Tuesday responded to a Martinez Refining Company report that chemicals and combustion byproducts from the three-day fire earlier this month included those that can cause cancer, and heart and lung disease.
