Dozens of flood warnings and alerts remain in place across England on Sunday as disruption from Storm Bert continues in many parts of the UK. A man in his 60s died on Saturday after a tree hit his car near Winchester, while a number of homes were flooded in counties Down and Tyrone in Northern Ireland.

A number of weather warnings are in place today, with the Met Office predicting flooding and strong wind gusts. A "multi-hazard event" caused chaos and travel disruption yesterday.

“Storm Bert marks a shift to much milder air and wintry hazards will gradually diminish through the weekend, but heavy snowfall is expected across parts of northern England and Scotland for a time on Saturday, especially over higher ground, and warnings are in place,” Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley said.

Two people have died, transport has been disrupted and tens of thousands of homes have been left without power – as Storm Bert batters parts of the country with strong winds, snow and heavy rain. 100 weather warnings are in force across northern England, Scotland and Wales – with winds of up to 70 miles an hour and blizzard conditions in places.

The Met Office has issued snow, ice, wind and rain warnings across the UK and said the low pressure system would be a 'multi-hazard event' following a cold snap. An amber alert for heavy snow and ice will be in force on Saturday from 7am until 5pm.

Storm Bert has engulfed Britain, even forcing the cancellation of a number of Christmas lights switch-on events. Multiple yellow weather warnings for rain and wind have been released for the next 48 hours.
