We have now concluded our 2025 elver monitoring at our principle elver pass on the River Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire. In early March, reports of large catches on the River Severn elver fishery suggested a potentially strong migration season. However, despite favourable conditions, significant elver movement did not begin until early June — much later than in previous years. Only 801 elvers were recorded in April and May 2025, compared with 33,000 in 2013, with no clear explanation for the delay
