Whenever the school of Halalu (Juvenile Big Eye Scad) rolls in, it’s been a tradition for most Hawaii Fisherman to hit the piles for live bait or to consume and share with family and friends. I personally love deep fried Halalu in panko with my beers 🍻 This pile however is more Sardine heavy and the Halalu are on the smaller side. It’s a tough little pile of skittish Halalu, with a lot of predators schooling them up. I lost two to a Huge Awa’awa that snatched it twice in a row lol. I used both
