Monument Fragments; St Mary’s Church, Sandbach, Cheshire. Unfortunately, time & the elements have taken their toll and they are now heavily worn & slowly disintegrating. The fragments date to the 9th or 10th century, although the earliest record for these stones is in an engraving by William Alexander in c.1810, before the Market Crosses were restored n c.1816 - the cross shafts are shown at each corner of the monument.
