This Virginia opossum has been recovering in our hospital since the end of November. He fractured his jaw and nasal cavity after being hit by a car. We didn’t include his intake photos because we thought they might be too graphic… we called the Good Samaritan who found the opossum and they couldn’t wait to release him back home! This poor opossum was found lying in the middle of the road in East Islip and was apparently there for 2 days-folks thought she had passed since she wasn’t moving. Our friend @johndebacker went on the rescue to find that she was indeed alive and she also had a pouch full of joeys. We cleaned her up, hydrated her and started her on a course of antibiotics. Yes, we protect and save all creatures. This monarch caterpillar along with many others, was found munching away in our garden on some butterfly weed.
