Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong is an underwater archaeology museum in Yangjiang, south China's Guangdong Province. It is home to Nanhai One, an 800-year-old ancient Chinese merchant vessel, a testimony of ancient China's prosperous foreign trade along the Maritime Silk Road during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Join CGTN to explore the stories behind the ancient vessel. #TidesofChina | CGTN

Deep beneath the South China Sea an ancient treasure lay hidden for eight centuries. A 12th century Chinese merchant ship laden with riches from the ancient Maritime Silk Road rested in the mud until 1987 when a team searching for another wreck stumbled upon it by chance. They uncovered the Nanhai No 1 from the Southern Song Dynasty with a wooden hull nearly intact and over 180000 artifacts including porcelain, gold, silver and copper. In 2007 engineers lifted the entire ship to a custom museum
